Tractor Tires

Keeping good tires on your tractor is vitally important when operating machinery.  Tires play an important role because they aid in traction.  Whether the job you are doing involves an uneven terrain or a wet one, it is important to keep the tires in good condition.  This does not necessarily mean that you have to purchase brand new tires when the tread becomes stripped.  You can find previously used tires on the market that work just as well as new and are more affordable.

There are many things you can to do to preserve the life of your farm tractor tires; some of which include:

  • Check your tires frequently
  • Remove any rocks or other items that have become embedded in the tire
  • If something has become lodged into the tire leaving it damaged, you should have it repaired as soon as possible.  This could save you more time from having to buy new ones.
  • Look at the overall tire—notice the tread and how damaged it is.
  • When not using the tires, store away from moisture and extreme temperatures—extreme weather conditions put a lot of wear and tear on your tires.
  • Always park the vehicle in a well-ventilated shaded area.
  • Frequently check the pressure of the tire and make sure all caps are securely tightened.

Depending on your circumstances there are many different types of tires that can be used.  Here is a list of the different types and their uses:

  1. Agricultural tires – heavy, yet narrow rubber that contain angled bars on the tread provided great traction.
  2. Turf tires – wide tires in a balloon-like structure that distribute the weight of the machine to prevent damage to lawns and dirt.
  3. Flotation tires – extra wide turf tires that prevent soil compaction and provide more grab to slippery or muddy areas.
  4. Ribbed tires – contain grooves in the tread and are excellent for 2WD’s and wagons.
  5. Combination tires – a combination of the Turf and flotation tires that prevent the soil compaction but have deep tread fro better traction.

There are many brands that you can choose from when purchasing new tires for your tractor.  Whether they are rear tractor tires or frontal, you can find them in numerous brands; however some of the top brands with good reviews include Goodyear and Firestone brands.  They are both known to be very durable and reliable tires that will give you the performance you want.
